I streamed Julia Child for fun as a test and used ear phones .... and even took the phones out and heard Julia just fine. I just set it on my nightstand face down and it does lie flat with the beautiful spine showing. I think this cover is totally classy and I love that it has no zippers, straps, snaps, buttons, velcro tabs or ties.
